In Japan, Ara Style is a senior break dance group based in Tokyo. The group aims to sensitize elders to spotters and physical exercise through break dancing. This is the only group in Japan that does break dancing for senior citizens. The group was founded by 71-year-old Riko Maruyama to help seniors stay active and fit. Japanese traditional Nihon Buyo dance artist Saruwaka Kiyoshi is also one of the founding members of the breakdance group. He was inspired by seeing children break dancing near railway tracks.
Recently 8 members of the club gathered at a community center in preparation for a performance at a local festival. He was wearing an orange and green T-shirt. The parents of the break dance group say that it has increased fitness. Attempting to break dance creates a humorous atmosphere. We will break dance as long as we live.
Apart from practicing break dance moves, team members also have fun. There are 15 members in the only club of its kind in Japan. At first, everyone thought that break dancing would not be possible after crossing the 70-year camp. It seemed impossible to dance in a very difficult way. However, after taking simple steps, the body began to move.
This activity is now looking very fun and exciting. In Japan, the number of people over 65 years of age is 30 percent of the total population, so there is a desire to start activities like break dancing in other parts of Japan as well.
Not only in Japan, elders all over the world can take a break for peace of mind. Some young spectators also come to watch the elders dance. They salute the elders by clapping their hands. Break dancing started in the 1970s and 1980s in New York City, America. Now it is also a part of the Olympics.
