Type 1 Diabetes Cure: Diabetes is one of the fastest-growing serious diseases worldwide. There are mainly two types of diabetes: Type-1 and Type-2. Health experts say that once diabetes develops, it takes a lifetime of effort to keep it under control. Type-2 diabetes can be managed with medication along with lifestyle-diet improvements, while in the case of type-1 diabetes, the patient needs to take insulin for life. However, great success has now been achieved in this direction. Chinese scientists have discovered a new treatment called stem cell transplantation that can cure type-1 diabetes.

Stem cell transplant turned out to be a boon

According to a report published in a local Chinese newspaper, a 25-year-old woman suffering from type-1 diabetes for more than a decade has been relieved of her diabetes following an invasive surgical transplant. The stem cell transplant surgery took only half an hour. Now women can control diabetes better. Scientists said that through stem cell transplant, the woman got special relief from this disease in about two and a half months. Now she can control her sugar levels naturally without insulin.

What is type-1 diabetes?

First of all, it is important to understand what is type-1 diabetes and why is it considered dangerous? Type-1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease. The disease can occur when the body's immune system itself begins to destroy the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. Without insulin, sugar starts to build up in your bloodstream causing a lot of damage. So far, islet transplants are the only treatment for people with type-1 diabetes, in which islet cells are removed from a deceased person's pancreas and transplanted into the patient's liver.

Got good results

Stem cell therapy has reportedly opened up new possibilities for treating diabetes. To treat this disease, researchers first took cells from the patient themselves and made some chemical changes to them. In this process, the cells are converted into islet cells, after which the modified cells are transplanted back into the patient's body after successful results.

The need for insulin will be avoided

In June last year, a team of Chinese researchers received approval for clinical research. After this, they discovered stem cell transplantation treatment. Following this treatment, the patient's fasting blood glucose levels gradually normalized and the need for insulin injections was consistently reduced. 75 days after the transplant, the patient was completely no longer requiring insulin injections. Experts are saying that this therapy can definitely prove to be helpful in the treatment of type-1 diabetes.
