Sitting for too long increases Risk:
The habit of sitting or sleeping in one position for a long time can seriously affect your heart health. A recent study has found that sitting for 10.6 hours or more during the day can increase the risk of death from heart disease, even if you do light exercise every day.
Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital analyzed data obtained from fitness trackers of about 90 thousand British people. This device recorded their activities for seven days. It was found that on average people sit for about 9.4 hours a day.
Study results
When the heart health of the participants was analyzed after about eight years, it was found that more than 10.6 hours of inactive time can increase the risk of death from heart failure, heart attack, and stroke. Even those who were doing 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise a week were at risk.
What do experts say?
"Our findings suggest that reducing sedentary time is essential to maintaining heart health," said study co-author Shan Khurshid.
Exercise for 30 minutes
People tend to overestimate their exercise time and underestimate their sitting time, according to a study published by Brown University's Dr. Charles Eaton. He suggested that even 30 minutes of moderate activity, such as walking or light exercise, can reduce the risk of heart disease.
