Gujarat ranks fifth in liver disease, alcohol consumption-meat consumption proves fatal

Liver Disease in Gujarat: According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS), deaths due to liver damage are now raising their heads in Gujarat. The mortality rate due to liver-related diseases, which was once considered insignificant, has now reached 4.2 percent. It is understandable that the rate of this disease is higher especially in states where alcohol is not banned, but despite the ban in the state of Gujarat, Gujarat ranks fifth in the entire country.

The National Family Health Survey conducted a survey of liver-related deaths from 2012 to 2022. In which data was prepared on the situation in the country between men and women and state-wise. The rate of liver-related deaths in men is three and a half times higher than in women. According to doctors and researchers, the most deadly stomach problems are caused by the liver and alcohol consumption and meat consumption are responsible for most of the deaths caused by it.

Liver damage due to alcohol and meat consumption

Ten years ago, the rate of liver-related deaths in Gujarat was very low, but now it has started coming in comparison to the leading alcohol-consuming states of the country. According to research, 1 percent of women consume alcohol as against 19 percent of men, resulting in three times the death rate of men. In a state where noodles and momos are part of the food tradition, the rate of liver deaths is high.

Liver-related diseases are more in Gujarat alone

In Sikkim, the rate of liver deaths due to excessive consumption of meat and alcohol is 19.7 percent. Then in Mizoram, due to the same lifestyle, the death rate due to liver is 17.9 percent. In Manipur, 16.1 percent, in Meghalaya, 13.6 percent and in Gujarat, 4.2 percent of deaths are due to liver diseases. The most surprising thing in this survey is that on the one hand, all the eastern states, while on the other hand, in the west, only Gujarat alone has increased the rate of liver diseases due to the addition of wrong influence of food and addiction.

Most of the deaths surveyed are people in the age group of 45 to 54 years and the second place is taken by people in the age group of 35 to 44. Thus, the statistics indicate that liver diseases raise their heads and become fatal only when men are of earning and responsible age.
