Walking habits of Japanese people

It is because of this strange law that the lowest obesity rate in the world is found here. Japan's fitness index is also very good. The balanced diet of the people here and the transport system also help people to stay fit. The diet consists of vegetables, fish, and rice. Apart from this, due to the walking habits of Japanese people, obesity is not seen much in people.

What is this strange law?

The Metabo Law was introduced in 2008 by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare in an effort to curb the rising rate of obesity. In which the waist measurement of men and women aged 40 to 74 years is taken every year. The waist size for men is 33.5 inches and for women, it is set at 35.4 inches. The role of employer and local government and a minimum of 65% participation ensured and set a target of 25% reduction in obesity rate. There is also a provision for penalties if one fails to meet this target. However, this was mistakenly taken to mean that the 'metabo' law outlawed obesity.

What is the need for Metabo Law?

Of Japan's total population of 12.5 million, 29.1% are 65 years of age or older. That is, Japan has a very large number of elderly people. Their health is the responsibility of the government. So the Japanese government doesn't want diabetes and heart diseases to increase in people due to obesity. The government has to spend a lot on health.

What is the punishment for obesity?

Officially there is no major punishment provision. But some rules must be followed. People have to follow many rules and in some cases have to pay fines if found to be overweight. Many companies organize fitness classes for obese employees. In which they are also given remedies and exercises to reduce weight.
